On killer salads

I'll take a small break from vacation writing to tell you about the killer salads Blake and I made this week.  With the ridiculous summer heat *(see note at bottom) we were looking for cool, fresh dinner options.  "Killer salad fixins" was on our shopping list.  This is what the killer salads consisted of:

a combination of spinach and green leaf lettuce, but mostly spinach
tomatoes
avocado
cheddar cheese
gala apples
craisins
honey roasted sunflower kernels
champagne pear gorgonzola dressing from Trader Joes

The whole time we were eating them we kept saying how awesome they were and how we were so impressed with ourselves for matching the flavors so well.  It seemed like we needed to share with someone, and that someone is you.  We're having killer salads again tonight.  I can't wait!

*Last week it finally go REALLY hot here.  The kind of hot that got us to turn on our A/C and had us seriously thinking about moving.  I walked outside a building at school today just after 1pm and thought to myself on the way to the car, "Wow, it's noticeably cooler out here.  How nice to have a break from the heat."  I checked the temperature when I got to the car--97.  THAT was noticeably cooler.

On vacation day 3

There are no pics from day 3, unfortunately.  It was a day at sea.  We slept in, read books, ate good food, played shuffle board on deck, which was pretty difficult with all the wind.  It seems like we probably got in the pool at some point as well.  We finished out our evening watching the "Vegas style review show" on board.  It was pretty cheesy and worth some good laughs.  Now that I think of it, we may have watched a movie on deck that night as well.  It was a RomCom and so memorable that I can't remember the name anymore, it had Jennifer Aniston in it?  Maybe?

On vacation day 2

Apparently one day of a vacation report was a little too much for me.  Really, I'm just slow getting pics uploaded and get distracted with other things.

Day 2 started somewhere in the air between LA and Ft. Lauderdale.  When we got to Florida we had to wait in the baggage area of the airport for more than 4 hours before the shuttle was ready to take us to the harbor.  The first few were peaceful and we slept on the benches there.  As more passengers were arriving it got increasingly noisy and annoying.  We were overjoyed to find that one very large family with very loud voices was going to be on another boat.

This is what I thought of them!

We might consider staying here next time.

We made it to the boat, grabbed some lunch, checked into our room, and said goodbye to Miami.  The night ended with a scrumptious dinner and massages.  We slept very well that night.
